My Thoughts on the Trump Zelensky Meeting…
Let me preface this post and just say this is my opinion! I hope that it opens up some good discussions! I do not want this post to turn into a huge argument, but I do encourage healthy debates!
For those who are not aware. Trump met with President Zelensky a few weeks ago to negotiate. What is typically done behind closed doors was done where the entire world could see. Here is the clip if you want to watch. If you have not watched it, I encourage you to. This will give you proper context but also allows you to form a better argument or opinion.
Trump was hailed by Conservatives a “hero” for what was said to Zelensky at this meeting. Many Conservatives saw this as Trump standing up for America and really laying down the hammer.
I understand that it seemed heroic for Trump to stand up for America, as this is something that has not been done in a while. We have to be careful though to not be so blinded by the great things Trump has done for America, that we fail to see his faults.
Now, let me be clear… I support Donald Trump and I love my conservative values. I went to many of his rallies in Georgia and it was truly a blast every time. I loved it. However, just because I support Trump does not mean I have to agree with everything he does and every decision he makes. I admire him a lot and I do appreciate all he has done for America so far. He has a big mess to clean up and it is going to take a lot of time. Sometimes, I think there is a lot of pressure on Conservatives to agree with everything Trump does. If we disagree with one thing, then “we are no longer conservatives.” This is simply not true. We can absolutely be Conservative and call out our leaders when they make mistakes.
When it comes to the Trump Zelensky meeting, I have many thoughts. Initially, my American pride said, “YES, GO TRUMP- GET EM!”
However, the more I contemplated this and watched the footage I began to be a little more concerned. No matter what we think of Zelensky, he is a President. He is the President of Ukraine and he deserves just as much respect as Donald Trump. Even if he was asking for money, this should have been done behind closed doors, not for the public to see. I think Trump handled the situation completely wrong. While it made good comedy, it should not have been. It was a serious conversation that should have been treated as such.
After this happened many countries have come out and showed favor to Zelensky, which is not good.
The war between Ukraine and Russia is escalating. Trump bragged about how great of a relationship he has with Putin. Zelensky tried to tell Trump that Putin can say all sorts of things, but he is not a man of his word. Vladimir Putin only cares for himself and those are just the facts. I truly do not think he has any respect for Trump, and since Trump was bragging about how much Putin respected him… I think that just probably fueled the fire even more. It was a very messy situation and while it was supposed to just be a photo op, it turned into a political disaster. Everyone saw it and it should not have taken place. Not to mention that Trump also kicked Zelensky out of the White House following the meeting. I think Vance should have probably also stayed out of the situation as well. While I hope this goes absolutely nowhere, I do worry. Other leaders in foreign nations notice, and they typically unite when it comes to situations like this.

As a Conservative, something I am beginning to realize is we can absolutely support Trump and all he has done. However, this does not mean we have to agree with everything he does. We need to be able to accurately look at a situation and call out when there is something wrong-otherwise we are no different than Democrats. I want to be someone who stands for truth and to be quite frank, there is corruption on both sides of the political spectrum. It does not mean I am no longer a Conservative, it just means that I want truth. It means that when my political party does something wrong, they need to be held to the same standard we hold Democrats to. It is hypocritical of us to think that our party is superior and above the standards. Yes, Trump is doing amazing things for America and I am so thankful! But we have to remember that he is not perfect, and he is a man. He WILL fail us and make mistakes. The only one who can truly save us is Jesus and we should put out trust in HIM versus a President of any nation. While we can still show support for Trump, we need to be careful to not put all of our trust in him as he is human and will fail us.
