5 Bible Journaling Tips:

This post is for those ladies who like to Bible Journal, but have no idea where to start. I got my Bible Journaling Bible back in November 2024. I was hesitant to begin even writing or drawing in it, as I was worried I would “mess up the pages”. I finally got over myself and got some Bible friendly highlighters, markers, and sticky notes and wrote down everything the Lord would show me in my reading that day. Sometimes, I did not write anything and sometimes almost the whole side of the page was filled. Reality is, yes…it is God's Word and we want to respect it, but these little notes and drawings are also ways God is speaking to you and showing you things in life. It’s a part of your Spiritual growth and it is neat to go back and see what stood out to you, what God was showing you, and how you felt the need to remember it. In this post, I will be giving my favorite Bible Journaling Tips.

  1. Start with Prayer

If you want to truly get something from your study, you need to ask the Lord to show you something. I need to be better about this. I read on my break and at work and only have 30 minutes. I immediately jump into God’s Word. Prayer helps start it off the right way and get your mindset in a good place.

  2. Read

As you read, think about what the verse or passage is saying. How can it apply to you as of now? What is something that jumps out at you? After reading, spend a lot of time meditating on his Word. Find a verse that speaks to you and is encouraging. Try to memorize it, read it 10 times, say it 10 times, and write it 10 times. While reading, I always have a Bible friendly highlighter at my disposal. This helps me see what spoke to me when I come back to the passage later.

  3. Picture what you want to journal or draw

Have an image in mind. You can either sketch it out or just go with it. I like to just go with it and see what happens. I only draw on the sides of my Bible where the journal part is. I personally do not like drawing over the words. However, everyone has different convictions about that specifically. I usually try to picture what I want and will write some words around it related to the Scripture. Another point I want to make is, if you mess up…that is okay! You will make mistakes, but it will get better the more you do it! That is why some people sketch it out on paper before officially drawing it on the page!

  4. Pinterest

Pinterest is such a helpful tool when it comes to bible journaling. You can get so many ideas and designs to try from Pinterest. If you are struggling with coming up with an idea, Pinterest is your friend! The picture used for this post is from my own Bible. We all journal differently. I like to write more in mine versus draw pictures.

    Use Sticky Notes and Tabs

  5. Use sticky notes and paper clips to make it your own! Use little tabs to mark your favorite spots. I also encourage you to make your own bookmarks to include in your Bible. Add notes from your spouse that he has written to you or things that you love to hold in your favorite chapters or books. I also like to write notes on the sticky notes and add them, then if I get tired of them, I can throw them away or make a new one. Bible journaling takes a lot of time to get used to, and I am still learning the process too! I love to refer to Pinterest for ideas. Do you like Bible Journaling? If so, send in your Bible Journal Photos for a chance to be featured on our Instagram Story or you can post and tag us!
